Creating a flaky skin effect using pva glue.
Consult with your client about any allergies or irritations they may have.
Cleanse and tone the face as normal, but don't moisturise as you want to have dry bits of skin around the face.
If using latex, pva or any other type of glue, do a patch test to see if your client is allergic. Place a small amount on the inside of the arm. If no irritation occurs continue.
Apply Derma Shield to the face as you will be using glue on the face and lips.
- Place the pva onto the skin before any foundation.
- Using the tip of your finger dab onto the area where you wish the dry skin to be.
- Allow the pva to dry. When it is dry it will create a smooth finish.
- Apply the foundation onto the skin.
- Conceal using a bruise wheel to create the dark circles under the eye.
- Mix together a red and natural skin colour to make a raw red colour. Blend this onto the pva glue.
- Get your client to scratch away the surface. Do not do it yourself in case you scratch their skin.
- Peel away until you get the desired flaky look.
To create a cracked lip effect, use DUO eye lash glue. Latex and other glue gives off a strong odour that you don't want to be breathing in.
- Dab a little glue on to the tip of the finger and dab onto the lip.
- To create more of a dry area in one place, apply more on to that area.
- Once the glue is dry it will flake and create a dry effect.
- You can add colouring to this to fade the lip out.
For my Miss Havisham I thought that I would use the flaky skin effect around the hairline as this is where the veil would be. Obviously as the veil had been on for some time it would have caused irritation. Looking at the last image here I could create a cut or bruising under the ear to show how Miss Havisham had been harsh with her face. The skin for me wasn't dewy enough, so I definitely want to create a sweaty look. I think the eyes worked well but I definitely want to build up the colour more.
