- Brush through the hair, from ends to the top making sure to remove all tangles.
- Section the hair at the front, creating a parting of choice. Section from the ears forward.
- With the remaining section, start to back comb the hair.
- Back comb in the direction you want the hair to go. Also, never back comb hair that will be visible.
- To back comb the top pull the hair straight up, using a small toothed comb, from a third of the hair brush the hair down ward. Where the back comb has been created place the comb and pull down again. Repeat until a third of the hair has been back combed.
- To back comb the right side of the hair, pull the hair out and back comb down wards where it will not be visible. The same will apply to the left side of the hair.
- To back comb the bottom of the hair pull the hair upwards and back comb down towards the head.
- Next, you can backcomb the front section using the back comb technique for the top of the head.
- Once the whole head has been backcombed, brush through into your hands as if to create a pony tail. Make sure not to brush through the backcomb but to lightly touch on the visible hair.
- Once you have pulled the hair back twist the ends and push forward creating the volume at the front. Pin the ends of the hair into place.
- Use the end of the comb to pull the hair up to create an even round shape for the silhouette.
- Pull strands down to create a decaying effect.
- Next, add elements to portray a Victorian style.
