In order to create a French Pleat you need to prepare the hair. To do this, do a consultation with the client to determine the hair type and the type of products that will need to be used. Once this has been done you can begin to create the look.
Items you will need:
- Curling tongs
- Geisha Grips
- Bobby Pins
- Hairspray
- Protective Spray
- Comb
- Backcombing comb
- Brush the hair thoroughly from the ends to the top to remove all knots.
- Part the hair, either down the middle or at the side - depending on what look you wish to create.
- Section the hair into three parts. At the crown before either ear, and one behind this parting, creating a horse shoe effect.
- Before you curl the hair you will need to spray protective spray on the hair so that it does not get damaged.
- You want to begin curling from right to left. Place the hair into the tong and curl to the back of the head.
- Once the hair is evenly hot, pump the tong to release the hair. Place your spare hand under the curl to catch it. Push the curl back up to the head and pin in place.
- Repeat this process known as the brick effect.
- Once you have curled the entire back of the head and pinned up, leave the curls to cool and then take out. Leave the front section and the horse shoe section pinned.
- Brush out the curls, once again brushing from the bottom working your way towards the top.
- Next you need to backcomb the front area to create volume.
- To backcomb, pull the hair up straight and create on the hair, push this to the root and then create again. Only backcomb where it will not be visible!
- You also need to backcomb in the direction of the curl.
- Once you have backcombed, brush over the top of the hair but do not go through the backcomb.
- Pull the hair from the left to the middle and cross grip this into place. Make sure that it is directly in the middle so that the cone structure is centre on.
- The hair that remains on the right needs to be pulled over your hand and then around the hand to create the cone structure. Use geisha grips to hold this in place. Put the geisha grip through the crossed grips.
- The horseshoe section that is left at the front, needs to also be curled around your finger and then put in place over the structure. This will create the top part of the cone shape.
- Hairspray to refine the style.
- The front section of the hair will be curled. Backcomb this, and then pull over the structure. Spray with hairspray and perfect the shape.
